As general manager of finetunes, I have always been dedicated to providing the best opportunities for independents in a global, competitive and fast-developing market. My close involvement with Merlin makes perfect sense, since Merlin’s brief fits neatly with my own core philosophy: to work hard to achieve the best possible rights for indies within existing and new business models. I aim to do this whilst never losing sight of our most precious resource: music, artists and labels.
Born in 1975, Oke Göttlich attended the Sports and Economics University of Cologne and began his career as a sports journalist for Germanys only left-wing daily newspaper "taz-die tageszeitung". In 2000, he became editor in charge, while also founding his own record label "Nonplace" together with Burnt Friedman. Nonplace has released music by artists including Atom Heart, Jaki Liebezeit and David Sylvian. Frustrated by the bankruptcy of several distribution companies, Oke founded finetunes as a specialist digital distributor together with Henning Thieß in 2003. finetunes was created to provide a fair and transparent digital service provider for indies, who were struggling to achieve reasonable conditions in the digital marketplace, largely due to their lacking the infrastructure and collective power.
